Jon's Interview

Jon had an interview at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine yesterday. Karin and I went with him and stayed with some friends while he interviewed. We got down there around 9 am yesterday morning. Jon dropped Karin and me off at our friends' house and then went to meet a doctor who is trying to help him get into USC. After talking with him, Jon went to see his friend Josh. He had only been there a few minutes when Josh's sister got home and decided to bring their dogs inside. She thought they would just follow her up to her room. Well, as soon as the first 2 dogs saw Jon, they ran and started licking him. Jon was petting them when the 3rd dog came in and ran over, biting Jon on the hand in the process. Well, Josh's sister is a nurse, so she went and bought some bandages and cleaned and wrapped up his thumb right away. This was at 10:30...with the interview at noon. Jon thought he might need some stitches, but didn't have time to get it taken care of then.

His interview went really well, and he didn't have much pain at all with his thumb. One of his interviewers was Dr. Stallworth who is a pretty big influence down there. The other interviewer was a student who is on the admissions committee. It's hard to gauge how well interviews go, but Jon thought that things went pretty well. Now we just have to wait and see....

Jon got back to where I was around 4pm. We knew he needed stitches, but weren't real thrilled about paying a lot of money to go to the emergency room or an urgent care office (especially when we found out the pricing ranged from $70-$500). I suggested calling the doctor he had seen that morning to see if he had any suggestions. We finally got through to him around 5:15 and he said that he would look at it. Praise the Lord! The doctor put 3 stitches in it...it could have used more, but he didn't want it to be closed too tightly in case an infection developed--very common in animal wounds.

We praise the Lord for His guidance and provision for us!

For those of you who want to see, here is what Jon's hand looks like.
